Ongoing class activities
During a regular class week students will work on grammar, vocabulary and functional language in many different ways to develop their oral interaction skills, comprehension and writing skills.
- Artist Study: learn about different artists, complete comprehension activities, produce a piece of artwork in the artist's style.
- TV series: watch a television series (currently it's Greenhouse Academy), participate in class discussions and complete comprehension questions.
- Word by Word: a workbook and picture dictionary used to increase vocabulary.
- Novel Study: we read a novel together, discuss elements of the chapters and complete comprehension activities. Projects will also be linked with the novels to allow students to reinvest what they've learned.
- Journals: a moment in the day to free-write and be creative.
- Reading: every afternoon we begin with 20 minutes of reading to help students enrich their vocabulary. If you come by you may see students sitting by the window, under a desk, walking about or in the hallway! Reading should be enjoyable so students are permitted to put their feet up and get into it!
- Games: everyday some sort of game is included in the schedule. The games have a focus, whether it be targeted vocabulary or grammar, or to practise functional language.

Scholastics
Reading is an integral part of one's education. I have books in the class but they don't always meet the needs of each student. I encourage everyone to visit the municipal library often with your children to have them explore the world of words. If you would like to expand your home library, Scholastics is a good way to do it.
Students will receive a brown envelope with Scholastics pamphlets inside. This is a book and educational items company that gives you the opportunity to purchase books for your child. Purchases are done online and delivered to the school (I will distribute them to your child). There is also the advantage to receiving free books for the classroom. Should you wish to do this please follow the link below to connect to me and create an account.
